Ground your content in live Semrush rankings

Connect Semrush to dolv with your own API key and region, and every brief, blog draft and Director answer is written against who actually ranks in your market — cached about seven days per keyword so it barely touches your API units.

what dolv reads

Rankings from your market, not a guess

A language model’s idea of who ranks is months stale and frequently invented. Semrush gives dolv the current picture in the regional database you care about, so everything written downstream starts from fact.

Organic ranking results

The domains and URLs ranking for a phrase in your chosen regional database — position, URL and domain for the live SERP.

Keyword overview metrics

Volume and difficulty signals for a phrase, so a topic is chosen on evidence rather than on instinct.

Regional databases

Pick the region that matters — us, uk, de and the rest — so rankings reflect the market you actually sell into.

Cached for 7 days

Each keyword is cached per workspace for about a week. Because Semrush bills roughly 10 API units per ranking line returned, that cache is what keeps your units intact.

Semrush integration FAQ

How do I connect Semrush to dolv?

In Settings → Integrations → SEO & Analytics, paste your own Semrush API key (semrush.com → Subscription info → API units) and set a regional database such as us, uk or de — it defaults to us. dolv is bring-your-own-key here, so calls run against your Semrush subscription and you keep control of the cost.

How many API units does this consume?

Semrush bills roughly 10 API units per ranking line returned, so what costs you is the number of results, not the number of requests. dolv asks for exactly the lines it will use — capped at ten per query — rather than over-fetching and discarding paid rows. On top of that, every lookup is cached per workspace per keyword for about seven days, so repeat questions cost nothing. Connecting your key also spends one verification call.

Should I use Semrush or SerpApi?

Either works, and you only need one. When both are connected dolv prefers SerpApi, because its results carry titles and snippets while the Semrush organic endpoint returns ranking domains and URLs — and snippets give the writing more to ground on. Choose Semrush if it is already your subscription, or if its regional databases and keyword metrics matter to you.

What happens if Semrush is unreachable or my units run out?

Generation carries on. SERP grounding is deliberately fail-soft: an API error, an exhausted quota or a timeout returns nothing rather than raising an error, so it can never break a brief or a draft mid-run. You get an ungrounded result instead of no result.

What does dolv do with the ranking data?

Three things. The Director can look up live rankings in chat with its search_serp tool. Content briefs are generated against the pages that actually rank for the phrase. And the automated blog pipeline consults live rankings at its keyword step, so what it drafts is anchored to the real SERP rather than to a model’s recollection of it.
